Seminar for Paraprofessionals Cost $ 725.00

Event description:

Learning a new language requires more than just learning vocabulary or spending more time reading. To build a solid foundation in English that facilitates the acquisition of academic language, students need to build up their vocabulary bank (brick) and knowledge of grammatical structures (mortar). They can only do this with lots of meaningful interactive practice and systematic instruction.

We invite you to come learn about E.L. Achieve’s framework for serving English learners in a professional development opportunity designed specifically for paraprofessionals.

The purpose of the institute is to build the capacity of paraprofessionals to provide intervention that capitalizes on what students are learning in Systematic ELD and the rest of the school day. This helps ensure that the intervention instruction we provide bridges the reading and language knowledge English learners need to succeed in and out of school.

Who should attend?

Paraprofessionals who support ELD and classroom/content teachers within Systematic ELD partner districts and charter organizations.

Seminar Outcomes

Through presentation, reading, small group processing, and large group discussion, participants will:

  • Become familiar with what makes Systematic ELD distinct from other good instruction for English learners
  • Build a repertoire of instructional routines for teaching and providing structured opportunities for oral and written language practice.
  • Use the Vision of Explicit Language Instruction to plan, teach, and support ELs in a way that bridges and maximizes ELD, intervention, and classroom instruction.
