Elementary Systematic ELD Instruction (20-hour institute)

Elementary teachers responsible for ELD instruction learn a detailed framework for planning, teaching, and assessing English language development at each proficiency level. A Focused Approach District Implementation Plan must be shared with E.L. Achieve to participate.

  • El Monte City School District (4th-8th grades), CA - September 2 & 21 and October 21, 2011
  • Milpitas School District - August 25, November 1, 2011 and January 25, 2012
  • San Francisco USD, Mission Zone, CA - August 9, September 10 and October 1, 2011

Secondary Systematic ELD Instruction (20-hour institute)

SysELD Implementation Support Follow-up Session (1-2 days)

E.L. Achieve consultant and district leaders conduct classroom observations to *collect information regarding implementation of A Focused Approach to Systematic ELD Instruction. Constultant works with district team to review information from classroom observations and provide technical assistance in planning for ongoing implementation support.

Systematic ELD New Leadership Seminar (five days on-site)

Participants in the Systematic ELD Presenter Seminar will deepen their understanding of current research of explicit language instruction and second language acquisition, a Focused Approach framework, and effective instructional planning. They will also engage in a vibrant professional learning community specifically designed to prepare them to support others in providing Systematic ELD instruction.

 

Eligible to apply: District teams that are implementing Systematic ELD and wish to become certified to facilitate implementation support and/or present for their districts.  Seminars will prepare district teams to facilitate support for implementation and to present institutes for Elementary or (NEW) Secondary Systematic ELD Handbooks. Spring 2012 - Deepen knowledge of Systematic ELD instruction / prepare for Leadership Seminar
  • Re-read Systematic ELD Handbook thoroughly to be familiar with content and planning
  • Teach a week of Systematic ELD lessons that you have designed or adapted from a lesson posted on the website. Note reflections onLesson Observation/Self Reflection Tool (You will bring the lesson and reflections with you to the Seminar week).

Summer 2012 - Participate in a Summer Seminar event (certification requires attendance all five days)

  • Learn the structure and process for presenting Systematic ELD institutes and facilitating follow-ups
  • Practice presenting and debriefing key Systematic ELD concepts with colleagues.
